L'absurde Génie des Fleurs
The youngest winemakers we work with, Miha & Tom caught us off guard on a visit to France a few years back and captured our hearts. Working in the south of France, near Bédarieux in the region of Hérault (not so far from Montpellier), the two have started in 2016 what they call a micro-production - a small plot of land producing a few thousand bottles only across a handful local varieties of mostly Cinsault, Carignan and Clairette. The mantra of the project is “L’absurde Génie des Fleurs” - the absurd Genius of flowers. Without flowers, there are no grapes, and therefore, no wine. Tom explains; “As for our way of making wine, it is without concession. No sulphur, no nothing. Only grapes”.
It’s surprising to see people in their early twenties come to this realisation so early on in their winemaking career, but behind this purity genuinely sits raw talent. Miha and Tom have a knack for making super light, refreshing wines that pack flavour in spades and scream out in drinkability. Their openness to experiment with blends, maceration length and picking times means that we constantly receive a flow of tiny batch, diverse wines that are vastly different from one to the next and continually keep us on our toes eager to see what is coming next.
